The Pressure Cap Iron is the metal cap that sits in the top of the presser bar housing on Juki DDL sewing machines. It retains the presser spring (the spring that pushes the presser foot down onto the fabric) and is adjusted to control the amount of presser foot pressure.
Presser foot pressure must be adjusted to match fabric thickness and type. Heavy denim requires higher pressure; lightweight fabrics need less. The pressure cap is adjusted (usually with a thumbscrew above it) to compress or release the presser spring, varying the foot pressure. If the cap is cracked or damaged, the spring cannot be correctly retained and pressure control is lost.
